SARIG data packages
The SARIG Data Package: Drilling, sampling, field observations, and mineral occurrence information.
Data packages are updated yearly (June/July) by the GSSA, you can access more recent data via SARIG portal.
The SARIG Data Package is an extract from the Geological Survey of South Australia’s (GSSA) geoscientific database SA Geodata. SA Geodata is the primary repository for geoscientific information in South Australia and contains data collected: from research and fieldwork conducted by GSSA staff; by research institutions from analysis of core and rock samples held in the South Australian Core Library; submitted data from industry exploration programs. The extract is a series of CSV files covering the following areas:
- Drillholes, including basic drillhole metadata for over 300,000 drillholes, geological and petrophysical logging, and referencing information.
- Field observations – surface geological observations and measurements for almost 88,000 locations where GSSA staff have recorded lithology, geological structures or general observations.
- The results of rock sample analyses for over 3,000,000 rock samples collected down drillholes or from the surface, including sample and analysis metadata, geochemistry, geochronology, biostratigraphy, and petrographic analysis.
- The location and description of over 9000 mineral deposits and occurrences.
- Further details of the contents of these files and a description of how the files can be linked together are included in the attached documentation. It is worth noting however that each file is designed in such a way that it can be used as a stand-alone dataset for most purposes.
